Week 42 Results & Tables Updated - Predict a Score.com 2007/2008 Champion Crowned!
Well that's it... 10 months ago we all started a long journey. Some didn't make it, a few joined us on the way and some simply got lost in the internet wilderness trying to find the website every week. Regardless of which category you fall into, you have helped make season 2007/2008 the best season yet and reinforced Predict a Score.com as the internets' #1 football prediction game.
The last week of Predict a Score was tense as expected as the predictions spanned over 3 days instead of the usual 2 (or 1). Points were won and lost on the awarding of a corner, the non-awarding of a red card and of course, the scoring of a goal. Of the 22 people that predicted for Week 42 only 5 failed to reach double figures. The highest weekly score award went to Mark Smith who scored 20 points.
But now, onto the real news of the week. He started the season slowly and as it went on he gained momentum and crawled his way up into the top 10, then 5 and then aimed towards the top. With 2 Predict a Score titles already under his belt, and 2 runners up medals (albeit during a time with smaller numbers) he is arguably the most successful player in Predict a Score history. Your 22007/2008 Champion is Mat Baker. Mat finished the season with 445 points (all points include the League Winners Predictions also). He scored 19 points in the last week of the season to fend off any potential challengers. Congratulations to Mat. Finishing as Runner-Up was Mark Smith on 435 points. Mark was always there or thereabouts throughout the season but never managed to take top spot at any point during the campaign. His 2nd place therefore will be richly appreciated and he follows in his fathers footsteps (Chris) who took the Runners-Up place last season. Finishing in 3rd was the long-time leader Phil Eldridge who ended on 428 points. Phil can count himself unlucky as he drifted away towards the end of the season but can take pride in the fact that for long periods of this season he was the one to catch and at one point even the webmaster himself was debating whether to send him a cheque for his winnings! In 4th place on 425 points was Nick Brooks who claims the prize at the highest newcomer. Nick, like Mark Smith was unable to ever break past 2nd place and go top of the table, however can be very happy with a top 5 finish in his first season. In 5th position was Andy Hewlett on 421. Andy continues his impressive pedigree in the competition since winning the 2005/2006 season and finishing as Runner-Up in that summer for the World Cup 2006 competition.
That concludes the top 5 players for the year, I'd also like to make a special mention to Susan Newman, who in 9th place finished as the top female, Sam Newman and Max Gallacher who despite their tender ages were at some point making us all look stupid by occupying top 10 positions (and in Max's case leading the whole thing!), and finally Chris Longhorn, who took over from Katy Atherton in November sitting at the foot of the table and promptly went about his business resulting in a 25th placed finish.
Onto the foot of the table then. Understandably this part of the tale has been growing cobwebs for a while now, but it is hard to believe that the August Manager of the Month Natasha Rogers, would be the one to finish at the bottom come the end of May. Tash finished with 107 points for the season. Claiming the Runners-Up spot to last place was Adam Ninnis on 170 points, 3rd from bottom was Robert Greville on 247.
Onto the Monthly Table and I won't dwell on this one too long, but it was double celebration for Mat Baker as he took this title for May with 60 points. I finished as Runner up on 58, level on points with Dominic Brooks in 3rd. Matt Whiddett climbed to 4th with 54 and Mark Smith made up the top 5 with 53 points.

Week 41 Results & Tables Updated
Pretty much everyone can be pleased with their efforts after this FA Cup Final Prediction Special. All bar one person who submitted their predictions scored double figures this week with the highest weekly score being shared between Matt O'Sullivan and Michael Collins with 22 points a piece. This was also the highest score of the season therefore they both stand in line to share the prize money for this award.
So what did these high scores mean for the league table. Well we'll begin with the Overall Table and it was all change at the top again. Mat Baker scored 20 points and went back to the top of the table with 408 points. Phil Eldridge, who last week went back to the top after a 1 week absence scored 14 points (normally a good score) but dropped into 2nd place, 2 points behind Mat on 406. Mark Smith remained in 3rd place with 402 and there is a 4 points gap between 3rd and 4th which is currently occupied by Nick Brooks who scored 19 points to move up 1 place at the expense of Andy Hewlett who dropped into 5th, level on points with Nick on 398 ut with fewer Correct Scores. It's hard to see anyone other than these 5 people winning the whole thing, however you should all remember that next week see's the points for the League Winners Predictions being added on to our final scores. This could quite easily change a lot at both ends of the table. Speaking of both ends of the table, there was no change in the bottom 3 and very little movement above those 3 (and that's all I can be bothered to write about them!)
In the Monthly Table Mat Baker took the top spot for May with 41 points. Sitting closely behind on 40 points is Dominic Brooks who scored 15 points. I am in 3rd with 39 as is Andy Hewlett in 4th position. There is then a 3 point gap between 4th and 5th which is occupied by Paul Newman on 36 points. At the bottom there are 7 people who haven't submitted anything for May. These are: Adam Ninnis, Bobby Chau, Max Gallacher, Natasha Rogers, Pabs Hunt, Rafal Gibas and Rhea Newman.

Week 40 Results & Tables Updated
Nothing overly special to report this week in the last of the Premier League predictions for this season. Only 4 players reached double figures with the highest weekly score award going to Phil Eldridge with 13 points.
Starting with the Overall Table, and after losing top spot last week Phil Eldridge responded in the best way possible by achieving 13 points to re-take 1st position from Mat Baker. Phil currently has 392 points and is 4 points clear of Mat Baker in 2nd on 388. Mat scored 7 points and dropped 1 place to 2nd level on points with Mark Smith in 3rd. Andy Hewlett scored 11 points and moved from 5th to 4th at the expense of Nick Brooks who went the other way. At the bottom of the table everyone moved up 1 position as the number of players dropped from 36 to 35 as Roger Newman decided he didn't want to play anymore. No one physically moved up any positions however as not many of them submitted predictions.
In the Monthly Table Dominic Brooks took over at the top after scoring 11 points to take his total for the month to 25. Andy Hewlett moved up to 2nd on 21 and Mat Baker dropped to 3rd also on 21 points. Matt Whiddett dropped down to 4th also on 21 points and I make up the top 5 on 19 points. At the bottom Rhea Newman sits the bottom of a 9 player pile with 0 points.

Week 40 Predictions Released
Week 40 see's the last set of Premier League games this weekend. As such all 10 have been featured and the game that makes up the 11th is the Championship Play-Off Semi Final First Leg match between Watford and Hull City. The featured prediction asks you to predict the number of goals to be scored in the 10 final Premier League games only.

Week 39 Results & Tables Updated
Week 39 could well prove to be the most significant week of the season so far. More of that later. Overall it was an average week for us. The highest score was 14 which was achieved by Mat Baker. 3 people in total scored 14 points (Mat, Matt Whiddett and Dominic Brooks) but Mat got it in a better combination of scores/results than the other 2. All in all, 9 people scored double figures.
We'll start this week with the Overall Table, and more of what I was talking about earlier. It took a long time, and at one point I honestly thought it wouldn't happen, but Phil Eldridge lost his place at the top of the table this week. His score of 6 was neither bad or good for Week 39 but it wasn't enough to stop Mat Baker from overtaking him at the top of the table. Mat now sits 2 points clear with 381 for the season. Phil dropped to 2nd with 379, level on points with 3rd placed Mark Smith, but with a better Correct Score margin (49 to 45). Further down the table, Nick Brooks stayed in 4th position, 8 points behind Phil and Mark on 371 and Andy Hewlett again makes up the top 5 with 369 points. At the bottom there was no change in the bottom 5. In fact only 2 people in the bottom 10 submitted predictions, which is a clear sign that some have given up their title ambitions with 3 weeks remaining!
In the Monthly Table, Mat Baker's score of 14 points was enough to see him complete a double by topping both tables in the same week. He is level on 14 points with Dominic Brooks in 2nd and Matt Whiddett in 3rd. I am in 4th position on 12 points, as is Jill Lambirth who makes up the top 5. At the bottom there are 10 people yet to score any points and they all take up the bottom 10 positions.

Week 39 Predictions Released
The first week of predictions for May see's the final set of fixtures for the football league. As such I have concentrated the predictions this week on what has been the most interesting league to watch the progress of out of all the English leagues - the Championship. All 11 predictions are featured here, and as there were 12 fixtures in the Championship it seemed unfair to leave one out. Therefore the featured prediction is to predict the result of the 12th game - leaders Stoke City against their midlands rivals Leicester City.
